Herbal textile I.

The manufacturing process

We will be happy to guide you through the story that´s behind every piece of our textile...

It all begins at a cotton plant...

The organic cotton our textile is made of, comes from a certified organic and Fair Trade agriculture at the south of India.

Thanks to that it avoids many syntetic fertilizers, pesticides and other chemical treatments, that are commonly used in the convential agriculture.

The harvested cotton wool is then sent to cotton mills.

The fibers,

that are naturally beige coloured are then bleached in mineral and citrus rich baths and spread on a green grass to be exposed to the naturally most effective bleach - direct sunshine.

They are dipped afterwards...

to 100% natural dyes that are made of mainly herbal but also other natural raw material.

This dyeing technique is inspired by old Ayurveda knowledge and presumes mastering of the dyeing craft.

The magic of this technique lies among other things in the fact, that thanks to changing season during the year, the final colour is always slightly different, which adds up  to the originality of herbal textile.

In the next step these yarns are

sent for weaving or knitting. They are protected from mechanical alteration with a delicate film from natural sizing, gums and oils during this phase. In the next proceedure, these will have to be washed away by a tideous cleaning ina mineral and sea salt rich fusion.

History of the textile production of our manufacturer date back to thirty years ago, the last ten years have been dedicated exclusively to an organic production. These facts resemble the high quality of the fabrics.

Then are the fabrics water sprinkled

and streched under pressure using handrolls, aloe vera, castor oil etc.

The fabrics are then stored

under layers of organic sheets, which keeps them clean and germ-free. Once the storehouse receives a request the fabrics are packed and sent for further processing - cutting and sewing.

The GOTS certification includes not only ecological but also ethical and social criteria (for more information on GOTS certification please have a look in our dictionary).

During the whole manufacturing process are for example the eight hours work time (from 10 AM to 6 PM) and three half an hour long breaks strictly maintained. During these are the employees provided with meals and snacks from the company.

Finishing of the products like cutting threads, looking for defects etc. is done during the final quality control. The manufacturer hires women with disabilities or with domestic abuse experience for this job from the local NGO, giving them a higher wage, meals and bonus once the order is dispached. During the work time it is made mandatory for their children to be in school. These women are futhermore provided with a possibility to attend proffessional training like cutting, sewing, designing so that they can move ahead in the company or start their own business.

But we also work with a small sheltered workshop in the Czech Republic, which employs skilled sewers with disabilities, to produce high quality bed linen and any other products from our fabrics according to our own designs.

The finished product is then washed in

wild soap nuts fusion. Our producer buys them from the local villagers and tribals, giving them a better deal for their work.

Thus, our fabrics shrink negligibly.

All of our packaging is

from a recycled plastic, the fabric packaging naturally from 100% organic cotton.

The remains of the dyeding baths

are of an entirely natural origin and thus are used to water and fertilize the soild of local farmers. They return to the natural nutrient cycle this way.
